Pupo, 67, is a prominent human rights defender. He was sentenced to six years in prison for participating in the massive peaceful demonstrations of July 11, 2021 (“11J”) in San Antonio de los Baños, his place of residence. He has been punished in dank, stinking, cells with rats entering through holes in the floor. He began his hunger strike on August 20th in the Kilo 5 y medio prison of Pinar del Río, where he had been transferred far away from home to make it difficult for his loved ones to visit. He demands his freedom and that of all unjustly imprisoned for the demonstrations.
